Beijing Computing Center, founded in 1973, is a member of Beijing Institute of Science and Technology and the earliest and most influential institution engaged in the research and promotion of computer application technology research. Its service objects include a number of areas such as industry, commerce, transportation, energy, environmental finance, taxation, social affairs, etc. Beijing Computing Center gathers many excellent talents of advanced degree in interdisciplinary fields such as computer & network communications, physical, chemistry, etc. It has won many awards such as the National Science and Technology Progress Award and Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award. Many experts are engaged in the research and development of national high-technology projects closely linked to national economy, such as the major projects of "863" High-Tech Program, "937" Project, "95" National Campaign. Since its establishment, the center has completed more than 100 researches and service-oriented projects for multi kinds of users entrusted by the relevant departments of the nation and Beijing city government. It has won more than 30 national and provincial achievements rewards and owned more than 200 international and domestic leading technologies and products.

Since its establishment nearly 40 years ago, Beijing Computing Center has done many works for the government, enterprises and the society. It has been taking its advantages and serving all works of life through constant innovations and developments, owned tens of enterprises, 3 research institutions (including two key laboratories) and has become the support unit of the high performance computer industrial alliance of China in recent years. Beijing Computing Center has the public computing service ability of the highest level in China. Its key features and dominant research fields includes public computing service, virtual simulation, web search and mining, wireless sensor network, etc. With the supports of Beijing Institute of Science and Technology Research, the center has built up the biggest industrial cloud computing service platform in China.

The first-phage project of the current computing service platform of the center was established in January 2009, equipped with Sugon 5000 series domestic high-performance computer which using CPU+GPU compound heterogeneous cluster system architecture, with the overall performance better than 30TFLOPS. In 2010, it began its second-phase expansion, continued to purchase 1 set of Sugon 6000 series high performance computer and integrated its system. At present, the overall computing ability of the system is over 100TFLOPS, supporting the industrial cloud computing platform and biocomputing platform of the center, meeting the computing demands of many high performance computing fields such as weather forecast, molecular dynamics, biological medicine, CAE simulation and cartoon. Meanwhile, it also works as informationization service platform and cloud computing technology research and development platform. Sugon 5000 and 6000 high performance computers provide powerful supporting and guarantee for the high performance computing service and cloud computing service. The high performance computer not only has powerful computing ability, but also has various computing resources and flexible configuration, which corresponds to the multifarious and comprehensive business features of the center and meets the computing resource differentiation demands of multiple fields. Since the computing platform came into service, the stable system has provided a lot of computing services to many science and technology research institutions in China, supported many important science and technology research projects, and has played a pivotal role in the research and production process of the key products of many enterprises.
